1.) If you were asked to program this example, would you do it? WHy?

I totally don't have any experience bidding in swoopo.com so I don't have personal experiences to base it from with but from the things I have read in that

article (including the comments), it will be such a great honor to program something as wittingly genius as this because in a way -- its very innovative and

out of the ordinary and that could be the reason why some were saying bad comments about it or thinks that this is illegal just because they are not used to

this kind of things. It's like in a Casino, I assume that nobody forces one person to play. So in swoopo, don't play if you don't like the terms. The site

also showed the mechanics of their bidding stuff and it was even mentioned in the article, so how could that be wrong if no one's forcing you to do it and

you're aware of the mechanics? Casino is gambling but LEGAL and some got addicted to it so what's the big fuss over people getting addicted to bidding here?

2.) Is it right to program this example? Why?

Everybody has a choice whether to indulge themselves in the auctioning mechanics presesnted by swoopo. How could this be a scam if they have been showing the mechanics of the different options of the auction and being aware of the mechanics made others (based on their comments) aware of it and an example of that bis "When you get people to pay 0.75 x 30 to increase the price 0.15 x 30 for something they will not get - yes, that's evilishly smart." See? It's a choice everonye makes whether they'll bid or not and maybe the people who chose to bid are just after their self-interest. Since the mechanics are very much presented to everyone then I assume that most of the bidders have an awareness of how things run and before bidding I'm sure that most of them thought of where their actions might cause them and still went for it. It's right for me (Teleological theory) and that those people who still go for it has the right to do so (ethical egoism).

10 Integrative Questions and Answers:

1.) What is swoopo.com?

It is an auctioning hybrid site that bills itself as "entertainment shopping."

2.) Why do they want or need to extend the auction end dates for as long as possible?

To pave time and way for others (more people) to bid too for that item because their bid is an additional BUCKS for them.

3.) Why only 15 seconds per bid? Isn't it a little too short?

15 seconds can make a big difference because thousands of bidders from all around the world go for that item (it's like there is an around the clock bidding).

4.) Why did Jeff Atwood named the article "Coding Horror" ?

He had bid in swoopo.com and he had observed several anomalies in the bidding proccess which made him think that THE THING IS EVIL.

5.) In an auction, Who sets the price for everyone else? How so?

The most optimistic person. He/she has high hopes in getting the that being auctioned thing that made him/her kept on bidding and his/her bids adds value to the thing being auctioned.

6.) What does equivalent item mean?

There are some cases that swoopo.com auctions high-tech gadgets that have a short life-cycle because it was faced out in the market as soon as  there is a new release for a newer version example they are auctioning an Sony MP3 player and when the auction lasted Sony MP3 player was no longer available in any market, so swoopo will find another MP3 player that has the same specs or value as of that Sony MP3 player and that would be the equivalent item.

7.) Why did Jeff Atwood stopped his admiration in these kind of sites?

Because HE THINKS that these sites preys on the weak and the uneducated.

8.) What are the other options that Swoopo.com offers?

Penny Auction, FreeBids Auction, Cash Auctions, and 100% Off Auctions.

9.) What's the difference between Cash Auctions and 100% Off Auctions?

In Cash Auctions you win money in the end while 100% off auction the winner gets to pay NOTHING for the final item.

10.) Who is Jett Atwood in the first place?

The person who observed and accused Swoop.com doing illegal things.
